Shepherd’s House Ministries will offer two free public training sessions this month aimed at preventing suicide.
The one-hour training — called Question, Persuade, and Refer — is designed to teach people how to recognize early warning signs and learn how to ask questions, persuade, and refer someone to help.
Suicide is one of the leading causes of preventable death in Oregon. In Deschutes County, approximately 29 people die by suicide each year with 14 suicides to date in 2019.
The sessions will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, and at 5 p.m. Sept. 25, in the Brooks Room at the Downtown Bend Library.
The program is funded by a grant that will donate $25 per attendee to Shepherd’s House Ministries. Questions about the event can be sent to [email protected] .
