Gurgaon Corona Cases: One Covid death and 11 new cases in Gurgaon | Gurgaon News

Gurgaon: A 75-year-old man from Rajendra Park in Gurgaon succumbed to coronavirus at PGIMS-Rohtak on Friday. The patient, who had tuberculosis and recently tested positive for Covid-19, was referred from Gurgaon’s Civil hospital in Sector 10 after his condition worsened, the chief medical officer said. Meanwhile, as many as 11 people tested positive in the city on Friday.
The new cases include four residents of Dabawas, and one each from Sector 28, Pataudi, Kadipur, Palam Vihar Extension, Dundahera, Rajendra Park and Sarhol. “Contact tracing of these new patients are being done by our teams. We are actively screening people in rural areas to avoid any outbreak of the virus in villages,” said JS Punia, the chief medical officer of Gurgaon.
Doctors at PGIMS claimed Gurgaon currently has 100 active cases and the district health department has been referring all its critical Covid patients to the Rohtak hospital of late. Of the seven patients who died of coronavirus at PGIMS till date, at least four were from Gurgaon. And of the 35 Covid patients being currently treated at the hospital, about 90% are from Gurgaon, the doctors said.
“We are getting more critical patients for Gurgaon, despite the city having a number of hospitals. The problem lies in areas like Dundahera, Sarhol and Kapaseda. As these areas are densely populated, implementing social distancing norms is an issue. More testing is needed in these urban clusters,” said Dr Dhruv Chaudhary, the state’s nodal officer for Covid-19 and the head of pulmonary and critical care department at PGIMS-Rohtak.
“Gurgaon currently has 100 active cases, which is the highest in the state. We need to increase screening and testing in Gurgaon in order to identify the symptomatic cases at the earliest. A total of 41 patients are undergoing treatment at ESIC hospital in Gurgaon. Four patients have already been referred from ESIC hospital to Meador hospital in Manesar, while some were shifted to SGT hospital and PGIMS-Rohtak,” he added.
In fact, PGIMS-Rohtak had on Thursday contested the claims of the Gurgaon health department over the number of corona fatalities from the city. While the health department had said that a 33-year-old man who passed away at the Rohtak hospital on Wednesday was the first Gurgaon resident to succumb to Covid, PGIMS reported the deaths of two more patients, both residents of this city.
