Punjab: Two suffering from Tuberculosis, severe depression die of coronavirus in Mohali | Chandigarh News


CHANDIGARH: Two more comorbid patients suffering from tuberculosis and severe depression died of Covid-19 in Mohali on Saturday.
With this the total fatalities have been recorded at 33 till date with 13 deaths in just 5 days, one on August 10, 2 each on August 11 and 12, five on August 13, one on August 14 and two on August 15.
Civil surgeon said that a 45-year-old female resident of Kurali died in PGI. She was suffering from severe depression, hypertension, diabetes.
The other person a 35-year-old male resident of Phase 11 Mohali died in GMCH 32 Chandigarh. He was suffering from Tuberculosis.
Apart from this, 58 positive cases have also surfaced taking the tally to 1,741 with 17 recoveries in the district.
The new cases are mainly from Mohali City, Kharar, Zirakpur and other scattered places in the district. From the past one month four places, Derabassi, Kharar, Mohali city and Zirakpur have become the epicenter of fresh cases emerging daily.
Once again 38 new cases have surfaced from Mohali city, 14 from Baltana, Lohgarh, Bhabat, Dhakoli in Zirakpur, 17 from Kharar, 3 each from Nayagaon and Derabassi, and one each from Sialba Majri, Landran, Desumajra, Nayagaon, Khizarabad, Aerocity, Jangpur and Padiala.
Civil Surgeon said that 17 positive patients have also recovered and discharged on Saturday which is the highest ever single day discharge in Mohali.
Extensive sampling and strict home quarantine has saved Mohali from community spreading of virus, he said. “We are facing a rise in Covid-19 cases because of outsiders arriving at Mohali. Their home quarantine is saving us from community spread and those cases being detected are direct contacts of positive cases,” said the Civil Surgeon.
