Cal basketball player tests positive, practice stops

The Cal men’s basketball team could stop its workouts for up to two weeks after one of its players tested positive for COVID-19, the school announced Tuesday.

The unnamed player who tested positive is asymptomatic, according to the school. This was the first positive test among any of Cal’s athletic programs since the school began daily testing at the beginning of this month, according to an athletic department release.

“For nearly eight months we have managed around pandemic-related issues with our eyes looking forward to a season,” said second-year Cal coach Mark Fox. “Our team and staff will continue to do so now.”
