LA CROSSE, Wis (WKBT) – You may have noticed men growing their facial hair out this month, but Movember isn’t just for fun.

It’s part of an annual campaign to raise awareness about Men’s Health.

The movement encourages mustache growth but also raises awareness for prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health, and suicide prevention in men.

In 2012 the Movember Foundation was ranked as one of the Top 100 Non-government organizations in the world by the NGO advisor for the international awareness that they help provide.

“Men don’t really have as many needs to come in and see a doctor on a regular basis. So Movember was created so Men would recognize the need to come in,” said Dr. Dana Radenmacher, a Urologist at Mayo Clinic Health System.

Starting from a two-man operation, the non-profit now event now takes place in over 20 countries.
