Cobra Kai Theory Explains Who Kreese Called in Season 3 Finale

Spoilers follow for Season 3 of Cobra Kai.

The most recent season of Netflix’s Karate Kid sequel series Cobra Kai ended on a pretty huge cliffhanger, with longtime enemies Daniel LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence finally teaming up and bringing their respective dojos together in the fight against John Kreese and Cobra Kai.

In the finale, Kreese threw down a pretty huge gauntlet to Johnny and Daniel; whichever dojo wins the next All Valley Karate Tournament will get to stay, and the others will have to be shut down. While this challenge has plenty of emotional stakes (Kreese has brainwashed Johnny’s son Robby into becoming a Cobra Kai student), it also sets up what is sure to be a smackdown of a fourth season.

The finale closed with Kreese making a phone call to an old acquaintance, one who owed him a favor — and it was pretty instantly obvious who this person was. Throughout Season 3, viewers had been given glimpses of Kreese’s traumatic past in Vietnam, culminating in a grueling death match in which he saved the life of his fellow soldier Terry Silver.

Silver, as fans of the Karate Kid movies know, went on to become a wealthy business magnate and ally to Kreese. But why, exactly, would Kreese call on his aid in the lead-up to the tournament? A new video on the Cobra Kai Theory fan channel offers up an explanation.

Two words: Mike Barnes. The “bad boy” of karate from The Karate Kid Part III was a protégé of Silver, and a brutal fighter. It makes sense that, should Kreese want to maximize his chances of victory, he would bring in both Silver and Barnes as senseis to give the Cobra Kai dojo an edge in the upcoming battle.
