Forum on World Health Day to focus on men’s health | The Advocate

news, local-news,

Men’s health will be the focus on World Health Day at Ulverstone with Tasmanian community service providers, health professionals, educators, and researchers to come together for the Allied Mates Forum. The contributors to men’s physical and mental wellbeing will be explored at the forum on Wednesday and strategies to address issues men face will be discussed. Men Care Too founder Greg Smith organised the forum which will look at the issues and health priorities raised in the federal government’s National Men’s Health Strategy 2020 – 2030 and the advice provided in the Making Services Work for Men guide developed by the Australian men’s health forum. “Accessing social support and services can be difficult and uncomfortable for many blokes,” Mr Smith said. “The Allied Mates Forum is highlighting the Australian Men’s Health Forum approach of promotion, culture and structure for more effective engagement with men before they are in crisis. “The strong interest from local health, social and community organisations has been encouraging.” Representatives from Veterans Support, No. 34 Aboriginal Health Service, Man Up Tasmania and Rural Alive and Well will speak at the forum. “It is important that we acknowledge the research, guidance and recommendations of the National Men’s Health Strategy and investigate what can be implemented locally to encourage men to use local support services before issues become overwhelming,” Mr Smith said.
